Philippines Holds Event Showcasing Indigenous Talent at WIPO

On October 2, 2019, participants at the WIPO Assemblies of Member States were treated to a demonstration of weaving by talented indigenous peoples from the Philippines during an exhibition featuring piña-seda, the famous pineapple-silk of the country. The event also featured an embroidery workshop, followed by a panel discussion on Intellectual Property for Indigenous Peoples. Opening the event, Director General Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines Josephine Rima Santiago said “While the Philippines continues to strive for a seamless method of ensuring the rights of indigenous peoples and the preservation of their heritage, and of course, continuously involve our indigenous people as development actors in helping shape policies that advance the Philippines’ inclusive and sustainable growth agenda.”
