LOS ANGELES – 18 December 2017 –The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names & Numbers (“ICANN”) today published a memo from the Hamilton law firm, which provides responses to questions raised by the community regarding generic top-level domain name (gTLD) registration directory services & the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). This memo is the second in a series [PDF, 253 KB] of memoranda that will address these matters. Read the memo here [PDF, 577 KB].
ICANN’s mission is to help ensure a stable, secure & unified worldwide Internet. To reach another person on the Internet, you need to type an address – a name or a number – into your computer or other device. That address must be unique so computers know where to find each other. ICANN helps coordinate & support these unique identifiers across the globe. ICANN was formed in 1998 as a not-for-profit public-benefit corporation with a community of participants from all over the world.
